J.S Bach: Goldberg variations, aria, BWV 988

Performed by Pierre Hantaï

Enjoy this sweet little masterpiece. :)

They used this as soundtrack for the movie Stupeur et tremblements a French/Japanese film. Then I loved the fact that they had a piece of Bach in a film which is set in the 80's (?) in a horrible office. But since I've seen the film (which was not so good, I think) I can't think of anything else when I hear this piece. So awful when you associate good music with experiences you don't want to associate it with, isn't it? Same thing usually happens when I read a book and listen to music at the same time. Later on, when listening to the music, it often strikes me how genuinly it has captured the atmosphere of the book.

  1. I had an unwelcome association with smells this weekend. A giant bouquet of my favorite, and very fragrant lilies and I receive a phone call that one of my dearest friends had a stroke. I don't think I will ever again be able to smell those flowers without thinking of the sadness I felt.
I'm really enjoying your selections and I've added your site to my Bloglist.

  3. Dear Catherine,
    That's really terrible. Really terrible.
My former cello-teacher had also an awful experience, when he was going home once, he bought some Danish pastry (his favourite) to eat later, but when he arrived there was this terrible smell... and he found out that the old woman living in the apartment below had died a couple of months ago, and they had recently discovered her just because she hadn't payed any of her bills for a long time... Since that, he's not able to eat Danish pastries anymore...

Thanks for adding me to Your bloglist! I'm honoured :)

    Kind regards,
